Put simply, prayer is the most important part of my work. And please know that I don’t see myself as a very good pray-er; it’s taken a lot for me to understand how to pray and what to pray; I know I’m only scratching the surface and I’m still not very good at it, but I’m learning and getting better.
In 2012, I had an “Aha!” moment during which it was clearly brought to my attention that my job is to pray. The pieces I make – whether angel, cross or sculpture – are simply the conduit through which my prayers reach the person for whom they were intended. This created a great shift in my understanding of my call. And when I stop and reflect upon what I do – this prayer and this angel making, I am so humbled. I am so blessed to be entrusted to pray for babies, kids, teens, adults, elders, dogs and cats and other pets; I am so grateful to have the opportunity to pray for so many, and I have this opportunity because I’ve been asked.
Because I’ve had some trouble figuring out how to pray, I thought maybe it made some sense to include some of the prayers I say either before I start the day, during the day, or at the end of the day with the hope that, if you’re like me, you might find something here that either helps you to pray or that resonates with you, and that, conversely, if there are prayers that mean a lot to you, that you would share them with me.
Please feel free to simply contact me and share – no pressure – I’d love to hear from you, and thanks in advance for sharing in this walk with me.
